Film Festival Smart Blog Commenting

In Room Two, we have been learning how to make a quality blog comment. We watched some films from old Manaiakalani Film Festivals and we took notes of the films that we watched. Then we converted the notes of the films to quality blog comments. The blog comments needed to be Helpful, positive and thoughtful. We posted the quality blog comments on the blogs that had the films on them.

We made a DLO which had comments about different aspects of the films that we watched. You can read those comments on the slide that is embedded below.

I really enjoyed doing this and it was a fun activity to do. It was cool to watch and write about the films and there were some cool ones as well. I found it easy to make them into comments and I just really liked it.

Lost In The Jungle

LOST

It was a bright sunny day on the weekend and my friends and I decided to go on a hiking trip through the jungle. We were having so much fun until one of my friends took a wrong turn on the map we were all following and then we realised 10 minutes later that he is not behind us. We decided that we would retrace our tracks and try and see where he went off. We decided to split up even though I thought it wasn’t a good idea. We were all aware that if we got lost and we didn’t find anyone, we would all signal our flare gun so someone could rescue us. I tried to find him but I couldn’t. I saw flare guns being launched into the air so I decided to shoot mine when I realised that I was in a place where no one would find me. So I signalled my flare gun but it hit the branches above and came flying down at me. It whacked me on the head. It knocked me out cold.  

I woke up on the jungle floor with a pounding headache. My head throbbing in pain. I tried yelling out for help but nobody answered me. It was getting close to dark. Then it came to me, I was lost in the jungle. I wasn’t really afraid of the dark, but in the jungle all by myself, that's when I got a little scared. I wasn’t aware at the time but I did know that in the jungle are some very deadly animals. I got up and tried to see where I was. I couldn’t really see because it was so dark out. So I decided I would go and try and find shelter and stay there for the night. I ended up finding a cave, so I walked inside of the cave. I got into a cosy spot and fell asleep. THE NEXT DAY. I woke up in the cave to a big GROAN!! I wondered what it was until I saw it. Standing in front of me was a BIG BROWN GRIZZLY BEAR!! ROAR!! I started to run as fast as I could with the bear giving chase. He wouldn’t give up, I was his breakfast. I kept on running and running and then started to climb up a tree. I laughed at the bear-like he couldn’t get up. I had actually forgotten that bears could climb trees. Then the bear started to climb up the tree. The tree started to bend. I kept on climbing up and then I was eventually at the top. The tree kept on bending down. I knew it was the end of my life with the bear right below me. He was about to eat me, but then the tree bent back and we both flew off the tree. I luckily landed in water but the bear was not so lucky. So I decided that he was my breakfast. I set up camp by the water so I could at least have a supply. The bear was YUMMY! I hadn’t eaten in 2 days. So I ate half of the bear and saved the rest for tomorrow. I went to go make some tools. I found a sharp enough stone so I could try and cut down a tree and make some tools. 

I managed to cut the tree and I made some tools like spears, axes and knives. I made a pickaxe as well so I could maybe make some stronger tools or maybe find something valuable, like gold, diamonds or maybe emeralds. So I needed to make a shelter since I had moved camps because of the bear. I made like a little tiki hut that was actually quite cozy to be honest. So I went to sleep and snored like a baby. THE NEXT DAY. I woke up and I decided to go fishing so the fish could be my breakfast and I could save the bear for dinner. So I used some of the bear for bait. I ended up getting a bite. It was actually a big bite because the fishing rod that I made was bending over and was about to snap. I eventually got hold of what got the bait and it was a huge fish. Almost bigger than me. So that was my breakfast. I kept some of the fish for bait as well. I was preparing to try and get my way out of this place. So I went to go and try to find some flint or something so I could make a campfire. I caught some more fish but I ate the rest of the bear so it wouldn’t rot or something gross happened to it. THE NEXT DAY.

I woke up and I had probably the best sleep I have had in months in my little tiki hut sort of place. I was going to go on an adventure today and try to see where I am in the jungle and see if I can find a way out of this place. So I got my spear and knife and off I went. I got into the very open area with no trees but then I found an electric eel. It gave me a little of a fright but my first instinct was to kill it because it could kill me. So I threw my spear at it and I missed. I really had to practice my aiming skills if I found a home. The eel looked fiercely at me, so I got my spear and just went back to camp. I was going to pack up my camp now and just walk in one direction until I got out of here. I started to pack up my stuff to get ready for tomorrow morning. So I packed up everything except for my tiki hut and then zzz. THE NEXT DAY. I woke up all ready to go and find my home. I left my tiki behind and then I walked off to find home. 

I had been I think 3 hours since I left camp to try and find my home. I wanted to eat some lunch because I was feeling hungry. So I ate my lunch and then off I went again. I could feel I was getting near somewhere. So I kept on going. Now it has been 6 hours since I had lunch so I am going to find some sort of shelter and stay there for the night. I found another cave but this time I checked if there were any bears inside. There were none so I went to sleep. THE NEXT DAY. I woke up and there was a poisonous snake on me. ARGHH!!! I screamed. The snake was vicious so I grabbed my knife and defended myself from the snake. I got away from the snake and ran away from it. My gut was feeling like I was somewhere I had been before. Then I got on this track. It came to me. I was on the track that I was on before when I was on my hiking trip through the jungle with my friends. I ran on the track one way and then I found Civilization!!!

I reached the point where the trail started and there was a whole bunch of search teams looking for me. I approached one of the search team officers and they didn’t realise it was me until I said my name. Then they contacted my friends and family. All of my friends and family were happy to know that I was Ok. After they contacted everyone and for someone to pick me up. I asked

“Are all of my friends who went hiking with me alright”

He replied with

“Yes they are alright and they are healthy and safe”

“Great” I answered

So then I saw my friends and family and told them my story of how I was LOST IN THE JUNGLE!

Scary Birthday Present EVER!

Scary Birthday Present EVER!





She pulled down on the chain with her left hand, steering herself towards her target. It was supposed to be the most exciting birthday present ever; a hot air balloon ride. However, Alice had been hanging on for dear life for over 100KM (since the basket of the hot air balloon had fallen off). She was now getting used to steering the huge balloon by manoeuvring her body, leaning to the left or to the right.


Terrified yet excited at the same time, Alice could just about make out her house and garden far below. It was the one surrounded by trees straight ahead, wasn’t it?


She took a deep breath and focused…





That was what she thought though. Instead, it was actually an old abandoned shoe factory so she had to look harder. Alice was slowly still going higher but she was struggling to see, going higher above the clouds. It was a beautiful and stunning view but she knew she was running out of oxygen. Alice had to think of something fast because the higher she gets, the less oxygen she gets. This was looking like the worst birthday present ever.





Stranded in the sky, it was getting cold and the worst part was the Hot Air Balloon was running out of gas. She tried to let the gas stop running so she could just float down to the ground. She reached and reached and nearly lost her footing. Alice eventually got a hold of the gas and it ended up going down but very slowly that was. Suddenly, the wind started picking up. It was getting rough up here. Alice was waving around like an inflatable man in front of commercial buildings. Alice was getting scared and started thinking that she might die. All these negative thoughts rushed through her mind, but Alice knew that she should stay positive. Then Alice thought of something, if she could get the Hot Air Balloon low enough, she could try and jump into the lake and walk home. She had to try and get the Hot Air Balloon down through the clouds so she could see the ground again. The wind started picking up again. Alice rocked around like leaves on a tree. She kept on going down.





Suddenly, a storm started brewing and Alice knew she had to find the lake quick. The Lightning was striking like it was trying to protect the sky or something. The Hot Air Balloon got struck by the lightning. The Hot Air Balloon was plummeting to the ground fast. Alice knew she had to do something. So she just jumped. She was falling from the sky at 100KM per hour and then THUMP!


Alice woke up in a bright room. She saw people with masks on and she had needles injected into her arm.


She asked “where am I”?


One of the people with the masks on replied, “you are in a hospital, you fell out of a Hot Air Balloon and luckily landed in a hay bale. You have been in a coma for 2 weeks”.


“Two weeks” Alice replied.


She tried to move her arm and let out a big scream. The person with a mask on was actually a doctor.


He said “after your big fall, you landed on your shoulder uniquely and you have broken your collarbone”.


Alice was relieved to be alive because if she had not landed in that hay bale, she would probably be dead at this moment. Alice knew that she was safe now and is never going to go on a Hot Air Balloon ride again.

1. What was the main problem in the story and what caused the problem and what was the affect. The main problem in the story was when the people were being chased by the creepy haunted kids in masks and what caused the problem was them going inside of the building. The affects of this ended up very sad, Dash found out his twin brother was dead this whole time.

2. Who is telling the story and why do you think the author decided to write it this way. I think the author wrote the story the way he did because it is very interesting and every time you stop listening, you can't wait for the next chapter.

3. Do you think had an effective ending, who would you recommend this story to. Yes, I do think that the story had an effective ending and I would recommend the story who loves horrors or great on the edge stories.

1. Write a paragraph why someone should read the story. I would recommend to read this book if you like horrors or spooky stories. It had a lot of twists and turns. They have to make a lot of tough decisions and they just have to get out of the creepy haunted building. Its sort of like an escape room but is more creepy and more dangerous.

2. Compare and contrast a character in the story with a character in another story. Dash is like Harry Potter because he never gives up.

3. What problem does the main character experience in the story. Write two reasons why. The first reason is when they entered the weird old looking house and the second reason is that they are getting traumatised by the people in the creepy looking masks.

Treaty of Waitangi Homework

So this is my Treaty of Waitangi homework and it was pretty fun to do. I didn't really know that much about the Treaty but now I do. Really didn't know anything about it, now I know a lot about it now. 3 things I learnt in the Treaty of Waitangi. 1. The Maori has NZ 500 years by themselves. 2. The NZ land wars ended up being that the English took some of their land. 3. Henry and Edward Williams had to translate the Treaty from English to Maori and they did it in one night.
